How low is the back of your dress?
With a backless dress, the shoulder straps usually aren’t the main problem—the back band is. It runs straight across the area your dress is designed to reveal.
Start by checking in the mirror how low the back of your dress is cut. Then choose:
- Slightly open: a low-back bra or a bra with a clear back strap may work.
- Deeply cut or completely open: choose something without a back band, such as an adhesive bra, nipple covers or boob tape.
- Prefer to go braless? Simply leave your bra off.

A bra with a clear back strap or a low back can work with a dress that doesn’t dip too low. If the back of your dress falls below the band, it will still show.

Deeply cut or completely open back: an adhesive bra, nipple covers or boob tape
If your dress has a deeply cut back, you need a solution without a back band. You have three options.
Adhesive bra. An adhesive bra has no shoulder straps or back band, making it suitable for backless clothing. It provides both coverage and lift.

Boob tape. If you want lift and shaping as well as coverage, boob tape may be an option. Applying and removing it takes a little practice.
